The New Testament

The New Testament

About this translation

This is a personal English translation of the New Testament, made with AI assistance and checked against the Greek text. The aim is readable American English that stays accountable to the original: preserving imagery, meaningful gender distinctions, difficult content, and genuine ambiguity, and following the evidence rather than a required theological tradition.

It is a working draft. It has not received independent human specialist review. Wording is provisional and changes as review continues. Each chapter here is published directly from the translation's working files. The translator's fuller study notes are kept in the source repository and are not shown on this site.

Reading the text

Verse numbers are shown in small superscript for reference. The translation uses ordinary paragraphs and modern punctuation, with no section headings added inside chapters. Verse numbers occasionally skip where the Greek base text omits a verse found in later manuscripts. On a keyboard, the left and right arrow keys move to the previous and next chapter.

Passages set inside double brackets like this are familiar passages with strong evidence against their original placement at the traditional location. They are retained and marked; inclusion does not imply equal textual confidence.

Translation notes. Each chapter ends with the translator's short notes on that chapter: alternative renderings, textual variants, and the reasoning behind difficult choices, labeled by verse. They are collapsed by default. Open the Translation notes panel at the end of a chapter, or press n, to show them; the site remembers the choice on this device and applies it to every chapter until you close the panel again.

Church use. Churches may use the translation in noncommercial bulletins, worship slides, free Bible study handouts, sermons, and freely accessible ministry websites without a separate agreement, with attribution. A church's nonprofit status or free access alone does not make every use noncommercial. Churches planning to sell materials containing the translation should obtain a separate written agreement before proceeding.

The license defines noncommercial use by whether it is primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or monetary compensation. No additional permission is granted for small commercial uses, revenue below a threshold, fundraising sales, or cost-recovery sales. Any commercial fees or royalties are set in the separate agreement; attribution alone does not authorize commercial use.

This license covers only rights Robert Chapman holds in the original English translation and notes. It does not create copyright in public-domain or otherwise uncopyrightable material, including purely AI-generated expression, or replace third-party licenses such as the Greek source's CC BY 4.0 license. How to cite this translation

Identify Robert Chapman, the title The New Testament, and the passage you used. For research or close study, include the book's draft version and date from the status table above, its chapter or verse URL, and your access date. The source revision below can identify the working files used for this build; an access date alone does not preserve an earlier reading.

Suggested citation template — replace the bracketed fields:

Chapman, Robert. The New Testament. AI-assisted working translation. [Book chapter:verse(s)], draft [version], [draft date]. [Chapter or verse URL]. Accessed [Month D, YYYY].

Each verse number links directly to that verse. Copy its link to cite a passage; for example, https://bible.rschapman.com/2-corinthians/5/#v10 identifies 2 Corinthians 5:10. When citing a reader note, identify it as a translation note on the relevant verse.

Suggested reuse credit for a bulletin, slide, handout, or website:

If you modify the material, add a description of your changes and retain existing change notices. Keep applicable third-party credits and supplied notices. A citation identifies your source; reuse must also follow the license. This About page provides the compilation-level Greek source credit above.
